About Harvard Business School's Archie Jones

 

Archie Jones is a Managing Director of Six Pillar Partners and Senior Lecturer of Business Administration at the Harvard Business School with appointments in both the Finance and Entrepreneurial Management Units. In 2021 he was awarded the Robert F. Greenhill Award in recognition of his positive impact on the Harvard Business School community.

Archie has held executive positions with both public and private companies including Merrill Lynch Capital Partners, Parthenon Capital, Kenexa IBM, and NOW Corporation. With his focus on strategy, private equity and corporate M&A transactions, Archie has led successful private equity investments and value creation in public and private companies across a variety of industries and sectors in the US, Asia, and Europe. He works to maximize the impact of high-growth, innovative enterprises in both private and social sectors, and his social impact work with organizations such as Year Up and New Profit have driven innovation and systemic change.

Archie currently serves as Chairman of the Board for Project Evident and as a board member of FLEETCOR, the Taly Foundation, the Mickey Leland Kibbutzim Foundation, and First Choice Credit Union. He served as a Partner at New Profit, a board member of Year Up National, and a founding board member and Vice Chairman of Year Up Greater Atlanta. As the founder and CEO of NxGen COACH Network™, Archie draws from his leadership journey to empower and coach the next generation of global leaders. At the Harvard Business School, Archie provides insights and actionable advice to aspiring business students and seasoned leaders on topics ranging from entrepreneurship and innovation to board service and impact through governance.  His academic research and HBS case studies focus on varied topics, including:

  • the challenges and opportunities of doing business in Nairobi, Kenya, in which he highlights Kenya's economic transformation in the decades leading up to 2024 in the context of its history, culture, and politics,
    &
  • a case study of Fawn Weaver, a Black woman and industry outsider in a capital-intensive, highly regulated, competitive and male-dominated spirits industry, who in 2017 successfully overcame numerous obstacles to launch a premium American whiskey brand, Uncle Nearest, which has become the fastest growing and most awarded whiskey brand in America.

Archie is a NACD Certified Director and a Certified Public Accountant. He is a graduate of Morehouse College and holds a Master in Business Administration from Harvard Business School.
